Gene Affected
Origin Okamoto et al. found some rats that have cerebrovascular lesion in SHR rats (espesially in line A). This strain was established in 1974 and named as "stroke-prone SHR (SHRSP) rat".
Strain characteristics Life expectancy of this strain is a half of WKY rat (male: average 212 days, female: average 340 days). This strain shows similar symptoms to human stroke. The incidence of hypertensive cerebrovascular lesion is over 90% and this lesion tend to occur in the back of the head.
Breeding Conditions Sib mating after cehcking phenotypes.
