Gene Affected NADPH oxidase 2 (Nox2)
Origin A 7-base deletion was introduced into the first exon of the NADPH oxidase 2 (Nox2) gene of F344/DuCrj rats by CRISPR/Cas9. They were then backcrossed to F344/N (Japan SLC, Inc.).
Strain characteristics Approximately 20% of female rats from 13 weeks of age onwards develop eosinophilia. It does not occur in male rats.
Breeding Conditions Can be maintained by sibling mating between homozygous rats.
Genotyping PCR, sequencing. Nox2-F:5′-GGAAACAGCCTTTCAGTTGG-3′ Nox2-R:5′-TCTCTAAGTAGATGTTTGTTCACAGAG-3′
References Cyba and Nox2 mutant rats show different incidences of eosinophilia in the genetic background- and sex-dependent manner.
