Gene Affected Ugt1a1: UDP glycosyltransferase 1 family, polypeptide A1
Origin Originated from mutant rat found in Wistar rat.
Strain characteristics The Gunn rat is a mutant strain of Wistar rat which has unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia as a result of the absence of hepatic UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UDPGT) activity toward bilirubin. Caused by a single guanosine (G) base deletion within the UGT1A1 gene. Animal model of Crigler–Najjar syndrome type I. (Mar 2008)
Breeding Conditions Sib mating. Heterozygous female and homozygous male are mated. Poor breeding performance.
