Gene Affected
Origin Myeloperoxidase deficient rat was detected in Std:Wistar rats which were purchased from Japan SLC, Inc. in 2001. The causative gene is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait.
Strain characteristics Compared with normal rats, 1) female sexual maturation is late (about 20 weeks of age), 2) growing of progeny is late and poor lactation leads to death at an age of 2 or 3 days of age because of poor lactation, 3) litter size is small (about 5), 4) infant weight gain is reduced. (Nov 4, 2009)
Breeding Conditions Maintained by sib mating among homozygoutes which shows possitive peroxidase activity.
