Gene Affected GH1: growth hormone 1
Origin Ikeda developed transgenic rats carrying the human growth hormone (Gh1) driven by murine Wap promoter, originated from Wistar-Imamichi (Ikeda, 1994). After that this transgenic strain has been maintained by artificial insemination to wild-type Wistar-Imamichi. Two lines of this transgenic strain were established named Line 1: characterized by relatively high level of serum Gh1 (high line, NBRPNo.0490), and Line 2: relatively low level of serum Gh1 (low line, NBRPNo.0491). (Oct 30, 2009)
Strain characteristics This strain shows gigantism, polyposia, polyuria and insulin resistance in adipocytes and muscle. (Oct 30, 2009)
Breeding Conditions Since this strain’s natural reproductivity is very low, usually it is maintained by artificial insemination, taking sperms from male transgenic rats. (Oct 30, 2009)
