Gene Affected
Origin In the course of producing transgenic rats (DRPLA promoter + huntingtin exon1+EGFP on a Slc:SD background), a mutant rat showing involuntary movements (circling) and symptoms of dystonia was found in F6 progeny. Subsequent by the selection of the involuntary movement segregated the transgene from the phenotype. Thereafter this strain was maintained by only the phenotype (not the transgene). (Jul 7, 2009)
Strain characteristics Involuntary movements and symptoms of dystonia appear after 4 weeks of age. These phenotypes have little effect on life span. (Jul 7, 2009)
Breeding Conditions This strain is maintained by crossing heterozygous females (without involuntary movement) with homozygous males (with involuntary movement). Homozygous females have less performance of nursing behavior for their pups. Homozygous males are fertile until about 25 weeks of age. Sib mating. (Jul 7, 2009)
Genotyping Determined by phenotype. (Jul 7, 2009)
