Gene Affected
Origin Established as speed congenics (5 generations, microsatellite marker) at the University of Tokushima School of Medicine, Institute for Animal Experimentation in 1998. Afterwards, maintained by sib mating.
Strain characteristics This congenic strain is homozygous for the Nidd3/of allele (on chr. 8) on the F344/Slc background. OLETF is a model for type 2 diabetes and some QTLs responsible for non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) including Nidd3/of were mapped (Kose, 2002). This congenic strain shows mild hyperglycemia in the OGTT assay. F1 progeny between this congenic strain and F344/Slc showed mild hyperglycemia, suggesting OLETF allele was dominant (Kose, 2008). (10.11.2)
Breeding Conditions Good breeding performance.
