Origin |
In 1974, WKY strain was transferred Dr. Okamoto from Kyoto University to. In Department of Pathology, Kinki University School of Medicine, a rat showing higher serum adiponectin concentration was found (Inoue, 2010). (Aug 31, 2010) |
Strain characteristics |
WKY/Kiha (HA-WKY) rats exhibit about 4-fold higher serum adiponectin concentration at 6 weeks of age compared with that of WKY/Izm. When fed high-fat diets, WKY/Kiha rats show hyperinsulinemia and severe hypercholesterolemia. The lack of adiponectin binding to skeletal muscle seems to cause these phenotypes of WKY/Kiha (Inoue, 2010). (Aug 31, 2010) |
