 Origin This mutant strain was detected by the existence of a point mutation at 308 (G308A) in the aquaporin 5 (AQP5) gene in Sprague-Dawley rat colony.
 
 Strain Characteristics The rats having this mutation show extremely low membrane expression of AQP5 in the SMG acinar cells and decreased water secretion from their salivary glands.
