This congenic strain is homozygous for the ACI/N Gcr1b allele (on chr.4) on the BUF/Nac background.
ACI/N rats are susceptible and BUF/Nac rats are resistant to MNNG-induced stomach carcinogenesis, and the presence of an autosomal gene with a dominant BUF allele has been suggested. By using ACI x (ACIxBUF) F1 backcross rats, one dominant susceptibility gene, Gcs1 (Gastric cancer susceptibility gene 1), and three dominant resistance genes, Gcr1 (Gastric cancer resistance gene 1), Gcr2 and Gcr3 have been mapped on chromosome 15, 4, 3 and 16 respectively by QTL analysis for MNNG-induced stomach carcinogenicity (Ushijima, 2000).
