Genetic Monitoring

NBRP-Rat is conducting gene monitoring using SSLP (microsatellite) markers.

Tested strains and methodology
1. For rats cleaned by embryo transfer: upon transfer to strain maintenance area of our facility
2. For rats cleaned by hysterectomy: upon transfer to the SPF area of our facility
3. For breeding pairs of inbred strains maintained in our facility: alternate year
Sampling of genomic DNA
DNA is requested from the depositor or isolated by NBRP-Rat.
Usually tail samples (about 3mm) for genomic DNA extraction.
Evaluation
Genomic profile is compared to our database and checked for any possible genetic anomaly.
