Rat strains can be ordered by clicking on the order button on the strain's information page. Alternatively, strain name and NBRP-Rat Number can be filled into the form to the left along with some order information. We will contact you by email after confirm its availability. Note, if there is no NBRP number listed in the strain's information page, there won't be any order button and such strain can not be shipped at the moment.

*Not only various rat strains are available from our resource center, but also multiple ways to find the most appropriate strain for your research. The general database lists a wide range of information on all available strains at NBRP Rat. This includes data on specific strain characteristics, the usual research area in which a particular strain is used for, data on the origin or if available on the affected gene that is responsible for the phenotypic modifications. More specific information are available from our original genotyping or phenotyping databases. The genome database allows for an on the fly estimation of how close several rat lines are genetically related to each other, whereas the data from our phenome project provide the to date most comprehensive overview on physiological and behavioral parameters for more than 160 rat strains from all over the world.

If you will deposit genetically modified rats, you are also required to send us a copy of Acceptance to receive animals that carries recombinant DNA materials

Additional restrictions exist for a limited number of rat strains. These restrictions are bound to the original depositor of the rat strain. The restrictions can be found in the "Detailed Strain Information Page". For such cases, you might have to send to the original depositor in one copy of Approval Form by airmail. When you send the form, please be sure to ask the depositor to send back the signed form to you.

In addition, it is necessary for the receiving investigator to comply with laws and guidelines related to Animal welfare.

After receiving these documents, Dean of the Graduated School of Medicine, Kyoto University issues the “Approved Certificate of Receiving Rat resource(s)” and we will send this certificate with one fully executed original of the MTA.

We require a service charge for the rat resource distribution depending on the status of the rat resource(s).

The bank remittance charges must be paid by the recipient. Shipping costs also have to be paid by the receiving investigator. The usual costs for shipping are approximately 150,000JPY to 200,000JPY, if we send three pairs of 4 - 5 weeks old rats in three boxes, dependent on the shipping destination. For the specific estimation, please ask your local shipping company.

After receiving the Rat resource(s), please send the “Acknowledgement of the Rat resource(s)” that will be attached to the animal box, by FAX.
