Gene Affected Tscc1 (Tongue tumor susceptibility QTL 1, alias Tcas5)
Origin DA rats are highly susceptible to 4NQO-induced tongue carcinoma, whereas WF rats are barely susceptible (Kitano, 1992). To establish this congenic strain, QTL region Tscc1 (Tongue squamous cell carcinoma 1, alias Tcas5 RGD: 724565) was introgressed from DA rats to WF rats (Tanuma, 1998; Tanuma, 2001). (Aug 20, 2010)
Strain characteristics The numbers and sizes of 4NQO-induced tongue cancer in this congenic rat showed l significantly higher than those in WF rats (Hirano, 2006). In search of the candidate genes for Tscc1, one SNP was found in the promoter region of the putative candidate gene Nqo1 (NAD(P)H dehydrogenase, quinone 1, NCBI ID: 24314) (Hirano, 2006). The expression level of Nqo1 mRNA and the enzyme activity were several-folds higher in DA and this congenic rat than in WF. (Aug 20, 2010)
