 Gene Myo5a: myosin Va
Origin Founded from a breeding colony of Wistar by Ohno at Yagi Memorial Park in 1988. A congenic line BN-dop and an inbred line DOP-dop were established.
Strain Characteristics Normal behaviour until day 10, thereafter, excessive spinning around on smooth surfaces and tendency to be off balance. Slight convulsive limb movements. Can't regain upright posture. Limb convulsion associated with opisthotonus becomes tetanic. Hyperacuety. Dead after 3 weeks. Lighter coat color pigmentation. Controlled by an autosomal recessive gene (Dekker-Ohno et al. 1993).
Breeding Conditions Maintained by crossing heterozygotes of the dop locus (segregating inbred strain).
