Genome Humanization Using Genome Editing

 We are developing genome humanization technologies using genome editing to elucidate the molecular basis of human diseases and accelerate the development of novel therapies. Our research focuses on large-scale replacement of genomic regions with their human counterparts and the generation of humanized animal models, with the goal of establishing next-generation experimental models for biomedical research.

Development of Next-Generation Genome Engineering Technologies

 We are developing next-generation genome engineering technologies based on the CRISPR-Cas3 system, with applications ranging from basic research to medicine and biotechnology. By integrating epigenome editing and genome imaging with CRISPR-based platforms, we aim to establish versatile multi-genome engineering technologies that will provide a foundation for next-generation biomedical research and precision medicine.

Host–Microbe and Host–Virus Interactions

 We investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying host–microbe and host–virus interactions using genome editing technologies and humanized animal models. Our research focuses on developing strategies to eliminate DNA viruses such as hepatitis B virus (HBV), establishing gut microbiota-mimicking animal models, and creating CRISPR-based diagnostic technologies for infectious diseases, with the goal of building next-generation research infrastructure for infectious disease research.

Expansion and Utilization of Experimental Rat Resources

 Our laboratory is dedicated to the development of genetically modified rat models using genome editing technologies and the expansion of rat bioresources. Through international collaborations centered on the National BioResource Project for the Rat (NBRP-Rat), we are promoting the development of research databases and AI-driven gene function analysis to establish next-generation infrastructure for rat research.
